Kitted out in the "bionic suit" developed by the Technion alumni-led company Argo Medical Technologies Ltd., Claire Lomas lit the 2012 Paralympics cauldron in London's landmark Trafalgar Square.
Lomas wrote on her blog, "I am very honoured to be involved in the Paralympic torch lighting in Trafalgar Square on Friday. I have my tracksuit and shall be in the ReWalk suit which will bring back memories of walking around London for 17 days!"
Lomas made headlines earlier this year when she completed the London Marathon wearing the ReWalkTM exoskeleton that enables her to walk.
The London Paralympics run from August 29 until September 9. Some 4,200 athletes from 150 nations will compete in 20 different sports, grouped by the severity of their disability. Technion 2nd-year student in the Schulich Faculty of Chemistry, Inbal Pezaro, won three bronze medals in the 50 m, 100 m, and 200 m women's freestyle swimming finals.
