Three recently recruited faculty members were awarded the prestigious Allon Fellowship this year.
Dr Ruth Hershberg, Faculty of Medicine: In her research, Hershberg combines evolutionary theory, advanced genomic technologies and computational analyses to quantitatively understand how the most fundamental evolutionary forces of mutation and natural selection individually and together shape patterns of genomic variation in bacteria and beyond.
Dr Carmel Rotschild, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering: His research interests are in localized energy states in molecules and low order materials. Applications are in nano-scale devices such as frequency conversion of solar radiation in order to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaics.
Dr Uri Shapira, Faculty of Mathematics (to arrive in October): His research interests include ergodic theory, dynamical systems, homogeneous spaces and number theory.
